8 Missiles Target Jammu; Blackouts Enforced Across Punjab, Rajasthan

In a significant escalation along the India-Pakistan border, Indian air defence forces successfully intercepted eight missiles launched from Pakistan targeting Jammu and its surrounding areas late Wednesday night. This incident marks a sharp uptick in hostilities following India’s recent counter-terror operation in Pakistan-occupied territory.

Targeted Strikes Averted

According to defence officials, the missiles were aimed at strategic points across Jammu, including Satwari, RS Pura, Samba, and Arnia. The Indian Air Force, backed by advanced surface-to-air defence systems, swiftly neutralized all incoming threats mid-air, ensuring there were no casualties or structural damage.

Nationwide Alert and Power Blackouts

Following the missile launch, authorities implemented a full-scale blackout across sensitive border regions in Punjab and Rajasthan. Cities including Amritsar, Jalandhar, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Fazilka, and even parts of Chandigarh and Mohali were plunged into darkness as a preventive measure to obscure targets from aerial reconnaissance.

Officials stated that the blackout was a precautionary step to reduce visibility for any further cross-border aggression, particularly through drone surveillance or missile guidance systems.

Retaliatory Context: Operation Sindoor

The missile attack comes just a day after India conducted Operation Sindoor, a high-intensity airstrike targeting nine terror camps operating in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Indian government claims over 100 militants were neutralized in the operation, including those involved in recent cross-border attacks.

In retaliation, Pakistan attempted a wide-scale military response involving both missiles and unmanned drones. Indian forces not only thwarted the attacks in Jammu but also reportedly struck down a Pakistani air defence unit in Lahore in a preemptive countermeasure.

Tensions at Boiling Point

Both nations remain on high alert as military activity intensifies across the western front. Residents in border districts have been advised to remain indoors and follow safety advisories from local authorities.

International observers have urged both New Delhi and Islamabad to exercise restraint and prioritize diplomatic dialogue to avoid a prolonged conflict.
